Toyota brought its A-game to the Super Bowl this year serving up a witty ad based on the "reinvented" 2012 Toyota Camry. The new Camry is among the many "reinvented" things in the video - including couches, children and DMVs. As the spokesman explains, Toyota couldn't stop at the new Camry; it had to reinvent several other things as well.
The funny ad spot is one of two 30-second ads that Toyota aired during the big game. As Toyota explains in a statement, "The premise of the spot is that good things are always better when reinvented; and in this case, they are also funnier."1 The ad plays the familiar Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 fanfare by Richard Strauss, which was made popular in the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The Toyota ad was certainly entertaining, but didn't lack some friendly competition from other automakers, including Audi's commercial (involving vampires) and Volkwagen's commercial aptly titled The Bark Wars.
