Toyota Pre-Collision System

The Toyota Safety Sense™ safety package is an innovative suite of safety technology that has earned high praise from consumers and industry experts alike. Among these features is the much-talked-about Toyota Pre-Collision System, which works by using a front-facing camera and laser to detect any objects in your path and alert you when braking is needed. It can even bring your vehicle to a complete stop automatically!

How Does the Toyota Pre-Collision System Work?

Now that you know a little bit about what the Toyota Pre-Collision System does, you are probably wondering how it functions on your daily drives around the Waco area.

  • Like we mentioned above, a Toyota vehicle with the Pre-Collision System comes equipped with a front-facing camera and an invisible laser that uses the components to measure the distance between your vehicle and the object directly in front of you.
  • The system takes your speed into account to determine if a collision is about to happen. If it does, your Toyota vehicle sends out an audiovisual alert notifying you of the danger and to manually apply the brake as soon as possible.
  • If you do not slow or stop your vehicle, the Toyota Pre-Collision System could apply the brakes automatically or deploy them at full force with the brake assist.

It’s important to note that there is no substitute for careful, attentive driving. However, the Toyota Pre-Collision System gives you the added protection against any surprises that can happen while you’re behind the wheel.

Toyota Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

There are a few different versions of the Toyota Pre-Collision System available. With Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS P) or Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0) – the most common versions – the Toyota Pre-Collision System includes Pedestrian Detection.

Vehicles equipped with Pedestrian Detection will have an additional grille-mounted system that uses millimeter-wave radar to examine your surroundings for smaller objects that the PCS may miss! It looks at the size, shape, and motion of this smaller object, identifies vulnerable people, and applies the brakes as necessary.

Which Vehicles Offer the Pre-Collision System?

Drivers in the Killeen area can have access to the Toyota Pre-Collision System in a wide variety of new Toyota vehicles. For the 2019 and 2020 model year cars, trucks, and SUVs, PCS either comes standard or available in each of the following models:

  • Crossovers, SUVs, and Minivans: C-HR, Land Cruiser, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma, Sienna
  • Cars and Hatchbacks: Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla Hybrid, Prius, Prius Prime, Prius c, Yaris Hatchback

Toyota Safety Sense™ Features

Depending on which model year and model that you choose, you can get one of the three Toyota Safety Sense™ packages. Below is a look at the features included with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0):

  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) or Full-Speed Range DRCC
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
